Family Growing Project in Ballybeg, Waterford

Ballybeg Community Development Project in Waterford, along with St. Saviour’s SNS, run a fantastic Family Growing Project. Parents and students of their 5th and 6th classes take part in the programme of activities. They get horticulture training from Ballybeg Greens who also prepared the school garden as part of their accredited horticulture training work experience. Staff and students of St. Saviour’s will eventually take over the development of the school garden with continued tutoring from Ballybeg Greens. The parents and students also participate in cookery classes as part of the programme.

Our Development Worker recently visited the school garden and students were so excited to share their learning and produce, including a delicious bunch of freshly picked carrots. Yum! They find the gardening really fun and love to take the learning home.

This is part of the safefood funded CFI Programme 2013-15. We are delighted to support it and use the evidence from projects like this to call for their continued support and development.
