An Tánaiste Joan Burton TD launches report: Supporting the Development of Breakfast Clubs

An Tánaiste Joan Burton TD launches our report, Supporting the Development of Breakfast Clubs, in St. Eithne’s Girl’s National School, Edenmore, Raheny on 22nd September. The report summarises findings of the Pilot Programme of Breakfast Clubs. The Pilot Programme was established to support the development of four breakfast clubs in north Dublin primary schools between January 2013 and June 2014. The study is the first of its kind to look at the practicalities needed by schools to set up a breakfast club in Ireland.  The report makes recommendations to:

  1. Expand the School Meals Programme to support further provision of breakfast clubs.
  2. Improve school infrastructure to ensure appropriate facilities for school food provision.
  3. Provide training and support for school staff to ensure best practice of breakfast clubs.

The Pilot Programme, which was funded through the Kellogg’s Corporate Citizenship Fund, ran in four primary schools in North Dublin.  For more information on each club see our case studies.  A copy of the media release is available here.
