International School Meals Day 6th March

School meals, such as breakfast clubs or lunch programmes, are a really important means of addressing food poverty in children and supporting their educational, personal and social development. Children who are experiencing food poverty and are hungry coming to school are more likely to have lower educational levels, receive special education support, and are absent from school more often.  Currently, 1 in 5 children in the Republic of Ireland are going to school or to bed hungry as there is not enough food in the home.

We will be celebrating International School Meals Day on the 6th March by gathering your stories of shining light examples of school meals programmes across the island of Ireland.  Get in touch on facebook or twitter.
