Our Development Worker recently visited one of the school gardens coordinated by Blanchardstown Area Partnership Good Food Network.
Fettercairn Community & Youth Centre are running a four week cookery class in May and Georgina, our Development Worker, went along to the supermarket tour session. It was an ideal way to learn how to read labels and what ingredients to try to avoid.
Our Development Worker, Georgina Buffini, recently visited the RehabCare/Simon community garden in Dundalk. This project was part of our Demonstration Programme of Community Food Initiatives 2010-12. Three year funding means that the garden was developed and that they continue to use and benefit from it post funding.
Ballymoney Borough Council hosted an amazing event on 29th April called Hungry For Change. They support the work of Cloughmills Community Action Team and have a vision for a region free from food poverty.
Our Development Worker had a fabulous visit with one of Fatima Groups United cookery groups, where Dorcas Barry prepared a kale salad.
Youth groups are well placed in helping young people improve their diet.
Southill Area Centre support a wonderful community garden on their grounds. The gardener, Barbara Mulcahy (pictured) and centre management are determined to keep developing the garden, despite very limited resources. We celebrated another of our networking events of the Community Food Initiative Programme at Dunmanway Family Resource Centre in Cork on 26th March.
The Blanchardstown Good Food Cooperative project held three gardening skills workshops with Institute of Technology Blanchardstown (ITB). The workshops aimed to generate interest in their community gardens and encouraged participants to form a group to lead development of the gardens. Gerry Mulherin (Development Officer, Mayo North-East) was interviewed by Midwest Radio on 25th July to discuss the Ballina Eat Wise Project.
